Help

Bane is built to be simple. Here is everything, in plain words.

What is a robot?

A robot is your little helper. You tell it one web page to look at and what to collect. After that it does the job for you, as often as you like. You can have more than one robot, each watching a different page.

How do I make one?

Sign in, press the big green Add a robot button, and follow the steps. You paste a web address, tick the bits you want to keep, choose where to send the list, and pick how often. That is it. Most people are done in two minutes.

Where can it send my list?

  • Download: press a button and get a spreadsheet on your computer.
  • Email: Bane emails the spreadsheet to you on a schedule.
  • Google Sheet: your list appears in a Google Sheet you already have.
  • Online shop: each row becomes a product in your shop (Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Square, Ecwid or Amazon).
  • Your own website: for advanced users with a web address set up to receive a list.

How do I send products to my online shop?

Pick Put it in my online shop when you make a robot, then choose which kind of shop you have: Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Square or Ecwid. You connect your shop once by pasting in a key or token from it (the wizard shows you exactly where to find it for your shop, it takes about two minutes). Then you match your columns to the product name, price, picture and so on.

New products are added hidden by default, so nothing goes live until you have looked them over. On most shops you can also choose to update prices on products you already have, matched by their code (SKU). Whatever key or token you give is kept locked away and is only used to add your products.

Amazon is a little different: it lists against products already in Amazon's catalogue, so your rows need a barcode (UPC/EAN) or an ASIN, plus a price. Rows without one are skipped and counted, so it is best for reselling items that already exist on Amazon.

How do I use a Google Sheet?

Open your Google Sheet, press Share, and share it with our helper email so Bane is allowed to write to it:
bane-sheets@ever-after-books-o6gbt.iam.gserviceaccount.com
Give it Editor access. The same email is shown again when you pick the Google Sheet option.

Is this allowed?

Bane only reads what a page already shows to anyone who visits it, the same things you can see in your own browser. It does not log in to other people's accounts or get past passwords. Please use it on pages you are allowed to look at, and be kind: collecting once a day is plenty for most jobs.

A page did not work. Why?

Some pages hide their list until you scroll or click, and a few block all visitors. If Bane cannot find a list, try a different page, like the page that shows all the products in a list rather than one single product.

Still stuck?

We are setting up support right now. A way to reach us (a help chat or an email address) will appear here very soon.
