Terms of use
These terms are the agreement between you and us when you use Bane. They are written in plain English on purpose, but they are still binding. Last updated 6 July 2026.
Who you are dealing with
Bane is run by the site operator. Questions about these terms: use our contact form.
What Bane does
Bane reads information that is openly shown on a web page you choose, tidies it, and sends it where you ask: to your email, a Google Sheet, a web address, or your online shop. It does the same thing a person could do by hand, just faster and on a schedule.
Acceptable use (please read this one)
You choose which pages your robots visit and what they collect, so the responsibility for those choices sits with you. When you use Bane you agree to all of the following:
- Only point Bane at pages you are lawfully allowed to view, and check that collecting from them does not break the target website's terms of use or any law that applies to you. That checking is your job, not ours.
- Do not use Bane to get past logins, paywalls, CAPTCHAs, or other technical measures a website uses to control access.
- If your robots collect information about people (names, emails, prices someone paid, anything personal), you are the data controller for it. You must have a lawful reason to collect it, tell people what you are doing where the law requires it, and honour their rights. Do not use Bane to collect sensitive information about people (health, beliefs, and similar) or information about children.
- Be gentle with other websites: schedule jobs no more often than you really need, and do not use Bane to flood, overload, or disrupt anyone's site.
- Do not use Bane for anything unlawful, deceptive, or harmful, including spam, harassment, or infringing other people's rights.
If a website owner complains to us about your robot, or we reasonably believe a robot breaks these rules, we may pause the robot or the account while we look into it. If you break these rules and someone brings a claim against us because of it, you agree to cover the losses and costs we reasonably incur as a result.
Your account
Keep your sign-in details safe; you are responsible for what happens under your account and for what your robots do. You must be at least 18 and using Bane for business purposes. We can suspend or close an account that is being used to harm others, to break these terms, or to break the law.
Paying
Paid plans are billed monthly through Stripe and you can cancel any time from your account page; your plan then runs to the end of the paid period. We never see your card details. If we change prices, we will tell you at least 30 days before the change touches your plan.
What we cannot promise
- Other websites can change, block, or restrict access at any time, so we cannot promise every page will always work or that every scheduled run will complete. If a robot stops working, you can change or remove it.
- Collected information comes from the pages you chose, as they were at the time. We cannot promise it is complete, accurate, or fit for a particular purpose; check it before you rely on it for pricing, stock, or other business decisions.
- We aim to keep Bane available, but there will occasionally be maintenance or outages. The service is provided as it stands, without warranties beyond those the law implies.
Liability
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under English law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Beyond that: we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, lost profits, lost business, or lost data; we are not liable for how you use the information your robots collect, or for claims from the owners of websites you chose to collect from; and our total liability to you for everything arising out of the service in any 12-month period is capped at the fees you paid us in that period.
Your data and our software
The lists your robots collect, and the details of your robots, are yours. The Bane software, site, and branding are ours; these terms give you the right to use the service, not to copy or resell it. How we handle your information is set out in our privacy policy, which is part of these terms.
Ending things, and changes
You can close your account at any time (see the privacy policy for how your information is then removed). We can withdraw or change the service with reasonable notice. If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will update this page and the date at the top and flag the change in the app or by email; continuing to use Bane after that means you accept the new terms. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.
